If you were following our actions on social media last night, it won’t have escaped your attention that we were in celebratory mood here at AJs!

The evening played host to our annual Presentation Evening, which is one of several occasions across the year where we gather together everyone from the Club to share in good times and a good cause – the promotion of girls football in Bolton.

There is too much to say about how fantastic the evening was, so let’s just focus on one aspect – giving thanks.

Thank you to Over Hulton Conservative Club for welcoming us into their venue, where we enjoyed great service, fantastic food, and a safe and welcoming environment – inside and out – for our guests to party the night away.

Thank you to Kym and Serena, two of our U9s parents, who went above and beyond to make the venue look truly spectacular, and to fill every corner with treats, surprises and special touches to make sure there was no doubt that this was a GreenArmy party – and one that marked 10 years of serving Bolton as the town’s largest and longest-serving girls only grassroots football club.  Balloons, cake, photo opps, props, sweets, green and black décor…  just wow.

Thank you to Gaz the DJ and Jenine our Photographer for keeping us dancing, singing and ‘camera ready’ throughout the evening.

Thank you to our friends Sam and Paul at GreenSlate Trophies in Burnley for helping us to select some incredible trophies, medals and plaques to honour our players and coaches in true style.

Thank you to all those who sponsored our teams all season, donated prizes for our raffle, and helped out on the night by selling tickets, helping to set up/clear away, and generally just giving support so that the whole night could run without a hitch.

Thank you to our new U7 families, who despite having only been involved with AJs for a few weeks, came along and became family in a matter of moments.  We are so pleased to welcome you to our Club.

Thank you to Jemma, our Chair, for hosting the evening and keeping everything running smoothly so that everyone felt involved and entertained throughout the celebration.

Thank you to our coaches and committee members, who each got a turn on the microphone to share their love for AJs and to show pride in our girls and in our Club as a whole.

Thank you to our players, who all looked amazing as they posed for Presentation Evening photographs, ate cake, danced all night long, sold raffle tickets, collected participation trophies and special awards, and generally ran around like mad things all night having a great time (and that was just the U18s)!

But most of all, thank you to our parents, carers and family members for coming along, throwing themselves into a great time, and generally being awesome in supporting their children’s dreams and wishes to play football, make friends, and build confidence.  Your support is vital in ensuring that grassroots volunteer-run clubs like Academy Juniors can run at all.

With that last point in mind, we reflect on AJs’ ‘First Football Mum’, Joyce Watson, who, as her eldest son and Club Founder, Steven, said in his emotional speech last night, was the inspiration behind everything we do, and why we do it here at Academy Juniors.  Congratulations once more to 2018’s winner of the Joyce Watson Award, Emily Norris, for all you do for our family club.  Joyce would have been exceptionally proud of you, and it’s people like you who lead to events like last night’s Presentation Evening being one where every single person had a huge smile on their face from start to finish.
