NEW Under Sevens Team at AJs

Academy Juniors are delighted to announce the formation of an Under Sevens girls football team at our Club!

We are delighted that we have recently been awarded funding as part of the Football Foundation’s ‘Grow the Game’ initiative.  This funding is based on our strong record of providing opportunities for developing girls football in Bolton, and this vital funding will now help us continue our good work into future seasons! In the first instance, this funding will support the set-up of a brand new Under Sevens girls football team, whereby we can ensure that qualified coaches provide engaging footballing experiences in a safe and healthy environment.

Predominantly, our aim is to ‘get back to our roots’ from where we started 10 magnificent seasons ago.  The problem with all of our girls progressing through the age groups is that, sometimes, you forget that you need to start right back with the little ones again.  So, this season, we are delighted to be developing our Academy Juniors Under Sevens team and welcoming them into the AJs family!

Recruitment started just 3 weeks ago after our season came to a close and our Under Nines coach, Emily Norris, just couldn’t wait for the opportunity to do what she had done with her own team this time last year – build a team from scratch.  Not only did she do a great job of building a fantastic team from a group of individual girls who all wanted to get involved in football, develop and have fun, but she and Assistant Coach and supportive parent, Gav Wells, led the team to gain the West Lancs League ‘Fair Play’ Award!  Well done indeed!

It was on to the next project though, and with just three Under Sevens girls who we knew may like the chance to come and get involved, we put on our first free taster session.  The next week, we doubled in numbers, and the week after that, we had an additional two girls get stuck in!  We like a bit of momentum, so we have extended our free sessions to run until the end of June – meaning there are still three Fridays of fun ahead!

Sessions take place 6-7pm at Goals Arena (indoor), which is based at Unit 8A, Riversdale Industrial Estate, Hacken Lane, Bolton BL3 1SJ.  All of our coaches here at AJs are keen to get this team building momentum, so over the weeks you’ll definitely meet most of us.  If you’ve been to any of the first few sessions, you’ll have met Emily and our Club Chair, Jemma.  If you’re heading down tomorrow or for the next few weeks, you’ll meet the Founder of AJs himself, Steven Watson, who will no doubt be bringing 9 month old daughter Lily with him as our ‘littlest AJ’.

Experience, background, ability… none of these things matter.  All we ask is that any girls aged 5-7 who want to come and have a go, simply drop us an email so that we can grab some details and be ready to welcome you!  Any questions?  Again, just drop us a line!

Academy Juniors cannot wait to meet their newest additions to the Club!

How many smiling faces will be in next week’s picture?
